Legality and Safety

Good question! Absolutely!

Having a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 certification is crucial for safe and legal drone operation for all commercial purposes.

This certification demonstrates our knowledge of airspace regulations, safety procedures, and ensures we’re qualified to operate commercially.

TLDR – NEVER hire an unlicensed drone pilot for your professional work.

While drone pilots are responsible for following FAA regulations, most responsibility (and liability) often falls on whoever hires them. In the case of real estate, weddings, or event photography, that would be the realtor or event organizer.

Hiring a Part 107 licensed and certified pilot helps mitigate the realtor’s liability in case of any unforeseen incidents or illegalities.

As of 2023, the FAA fine for unlicensed commercial use to a drone pilot is only $1,100. For the same violation, the fine for the hirer (e.g. a realtor or event organizer) is 10x that of a pilot, $11,000 USD!

We can fly our drones in most locations, but there are certain restrictions in place near airports, government buildings, and other sensitive areas. Luckily, even though a large portion of Los Angeles and the South Bay is in Class B air space, with proper foresight and planning we are able to fly in most areas legally.

We will always check airspace regulations before any flight and secure necessary authorization if required, at no extra charge to our customers.

Shoots and Delivery

For most shoots, there’s not much preparation required from you. We handle acquiring any permits and ensuring airspace authorization. However, if you have specific shots in mind, feel free to discuss them with us beforehand.

We use high-end DJI equipment. Our drone fleet handles a variety of situations and needs. It is always expanding, but currently includes:

  • Mavic-3 Classic featuring a high-end Hasselblad camera
  • Avata 2 for high-end FPV (first-person view or fly-through) shots
  • Mini-3s, used mostly recreationally and for those “in the moment” moments
  • NEO, we never leave home without one!

For still or non-drone footage, we use:

  • OSMO Pocket 3
  • Cannon EOS R50

All of our equipment is capable of recording in at least 4k, other than the NEO, 4k 60FPS or higher

Seriously, almost any shot can be beautiful or terrible… So, we utilize Apple’s Final Cut Pro to ensure footage is color-graded and always beautiful.

We will deliver your edited photos and videos in a high-resolution digital format that you can easily download, use, and share in accordance with our license agreement.
